That is about 22 cents a night, compared with about 4.5 cents for the 3 mg tablet, and it is where NOW's Extra Strength 10 mg capsule (100 count, $10.40) and Natrol's 10 mg Fast Dissolve (100 count, $13.18) both do better on price.

Nature Made also sells a 10 mg Fast Dissolve at 45 tablets for $15.49, about 34 cents a night, the most expensive product per night in the line; it exists for people who want the no-water format at 10 mg and are willing to pay for it. The in-between amount is the 5 mg Extra Strength, 300 tablets for $29.97, about 10 cents a night, which is a ten-month bottle and the better buy for most people who find 3 mg too little.

Sugar-free gummies are a small field, and this is the credible entry. The Nature Made Zero Sugar Melatonin 5 mg delivers a labeled 5 mg in a gummy the title states is zero sugar, 70 to the bottle at $14.24, about 20 cents per gummy. That is in line with the brand's regular 5 mg gummy (70 count, $13.99), so the sugar-free version costs almost nothing extra.

The amount is 5 mg, which is above the 0.5 to 3 mg range many clinicians cite as a starting point; Nature Made does not sell a zero-sugar gummy at a lower amount at our check, so a sugar-conscious first-time buyer is better served by the 3 mg tablet above, which states no sugar in the title at all. As with every gummy, the serving size is on the label, not in the title.

Every Nature Made tablet above is swallowed; this is what the alternative looks like. NOW Melatonin 3 mg is a veg capsule at a labeled 3 mg, 180 to the bottle at $9.17, about 5 cents a night. Nature Made's 240-count tablet is about 4.5 cents. That is a rounding error; the choice comes down to capsule versus tablet and to what you think of each manufacturer.
